Flying Monkeys Name Robbie Girzadas Head Coach for 2027

The Greenwood Flying Monkeys have named former player Robbie Girzadas as the team’s head coach for the 2027 season.

Girzadas, currently a senior pitcher at Erskine College, played for the Flying Monkeys and quickly established himself as one of the club’s leaders. In addition to his role on the mound, he regularly assisted the coaching staff as a base coach and became a captain-type presence within the team. Girzadas has already been working toward a career in coaching, including experience already coaching travel ball.

“Robbie was one of those players who naturally became a leader,” Flying Monkeys owner Greg Sullivan said. “We usually hire coaches who are a little further along in their careers, but his character, maturity and understanding of what we want the Flying Monkeys to be made him a unique fit for this opportunity.”

Girzadas already knows the organization, the Greenwood community and the Blue Ridge League from his time as a player, giving the Flying Monkeys continuity as they prepare for their second season at Legion Field under the front-office direction of GM Adam Brumley.

The Flying Monkeys will begin assembling their 2027 roster and fill out their coaching staff in the coming months.
